Description

Head Ball 2 - Online Soccer Game is a combination of pong and soccer that uses every freemium mobile game trick in the industry. Enjoy customization options, levels and stats, rare time-limited characters, and an energy system in this arcadey football game.

In Head Ball 2, you control a soccer player consisting of a giant head and a foot. Your goal is to use a combination of movement, jumps, and kicks to outmaneuver your opponent and get a soccer ball into the opposing goal.

Rather than using a top-down camera angle, Head Ball 2 places the camera at one side of the field. With no ability to sidestep, you're limited to moving back and forth between your opponent's goal and your own goal. Jumps and high kicks ensure that the game makes plenty of use of vertical space, keeping gameplay diverse and somewhat fresh.

In many ways, Head Ball 2 resembles the classic game of pong. The 2d camera and the way you block the ball with your giant head are quite similar to how you block the ball in pong with your paddle. Unlike in pong, however, in Head Ball 2, there are microtransactions. There are also powerups, levels, stats, and more, meaning that your ability to control your character's movements, react to your opponent's strategies, and execute tricky plans to score goals is often less important than the numbers associated with your character.

In addition to crazy stats, Head Ball 2 has a number of powerups that you can use to alter the outcome of the game. You can make your head huge, make a goal bigger to make it easier to score, turn the ball into a fireball, and more. These powerups can alter the pace of the game in a big way, but they're also very limited. This means that a lot of your success against your opponents in Head Ball 2 will come down to your timing with using these powerups and your ability to defend against your opponents' crazy combinations.

Speaking of opponents, Head Ball 2 places a robust emphasis on multiplayer. Instead of playing real people, though, you'll face what are almost certainly bots for the majority of your matches. This is a very sane concession from a development standpoint, as the twitchy reaction-based gameplay of Head Ball 2 does not mesh well with mobile internet and cross-country connections. The game puts a great deal of effort into disguising this fact, however, which makes it seem very disingenuous. Either the developers are lying about the game's multiplayer aspects and you're fighting bots most of the time, or you're fighting a set of people who use the exact same strategies, never emote or taunt, and have absolutely flawless connections to you in every game. The fact that your opponents use a seemingly curated selection of heroes and items and have terrible powerup management lends a lot of credence to the bot theory.

Head Ball 2 utilizes the same sort of freemium microtransactions that you see in many other mobile games. It's fairly generous in terms of free-to-play progression to a point. You'll have to manage your resources carefully, and as you start fighting tougher opponents you'll probably be tempted to spend a bit of cash to level the playing field. If you stick with it you'll be able to tough out this section and get your team up to amazing stats, enabling you to crush the competition.

How to play

The key to your long-term success in Head Ball 2 is patience and discipline with your diamonds. Diamonds should ONLY be spent on exclusive character packs and super character packs. Other purchases with diamonds are simply not worth it, as you'll need lots of things that only come from these packs in order to progress. This means that diamonds are a very limited resource that you'll want to hoard. Legendary and exclusive characters are ridiculously powerful in comparison to their rare counterparts, meaning that you'll want to use these almost exclusively as soon as you have the chance.

Head Ball 2 has a neat customization system where you outfit your characters with hats, sunglasses, shoes, and more. These accessories are not optional cosmetics. Instead, they're powerful stat boosts that are absolutely mandatory if you want to compete. You've got a bit of wiggle room within each tier when it comes to which accessory to equip, but if you only have one legendary hat, you should put that on your character whether you like it or not. These accessories can make a huge difference in terms of your ability to convert touches into goals and outmaneuver your opponent. As a new player, you should spend the majority of your gold on costume packs in order to build up a cache of powerful accessories to stick on your characters.

Diamonds come from scratchers, career mode, and weekend tournaments. This means that you'll want to log into the game regularly to claim these rewards. You can also get diamonds from playing in a league, which means you'll need to perform a daily routine in order to generate points. One trick you can do is only play when you can watch an ad video for double points and restart the game after each video you watch. This should let you watch 5 ad videos at a time for big multipliers on your league progression. Combine this with the triple points booster and you've got a winning strategy that only takes a few minutes each day.

You'll spend a lot of your time fighting bots in Head Ball 2. It's possible that some of your opponents are genuine players, but it's not clear where the line is between passable AI and genuine incompetence at the hands of your opponents. In general, the AI struggles massively with resource management and jumping. At the beginning of each level, play defensively until the bots blow their cooldowns and try to minimize their score. After your opponent runs out of resources, try to jump up and kick the ball over them as often as you can. In general, it's a good idea to stay on your side of the pitch so you can defend and build a bit of space to react to your opponents' moves, but you can sometimes try to rush them in order to slip the ball past their defenses. A few low kicks will definitely come in handy to squeeze in some clutch goals, but your overall strategy should probably be to launch the ball in the air.
