Description

After the success of their previous game (Limbo), the developers at “Playdead” gave it another try with Inside. This time around, you “control” a boy that tries to escape multiple captors and threats. Indeed, in a brief moment, you’ll soon discover that Inside can be both intriguing and difficult.

Even though Inside comes with easy-to-learn gameplay elements and controller options, it has a “Mature” rate. Therefore, if you want to share the experience with minors, it is recommendable that you play or supervise their gaming sessions.

Moreover, thanks to the learning simplicity, every type of gamer can play Inside without issues. In other words, if you haven’t played this game, what are you waiting for?

To give you a clear view of the new changes that developers made to this game, we’ll compare it with its spiritual brother, Limbo. Therefore, it is recommended that you play the previous game from the same company (Playdead), and experience that unique journey.

Art: Leave the “black and white” style to Limbo and experience an array of new colors. Thanks to the improvements with the engine and a lot of work with the texture, we get to see a new perspective. Still, though, to keep everything “under the radar,” they chose to use a monochromatic feel as you move around. As a result, you’ll tend to see a dominating color that shapes every room.

Atmosphere: Coming from the same developers, you’ll soon notice a familiar feel of grim themes as you move around. Even though almost all of the NPCs (Non-Playable Characters), might try to kill you, others might ignore you. Furthermore, thanks to the improvements in their techniques, sometimes you’ll see multiple characters around. Similarly, some enemies come with unique AI (Artificial Intelligence), giving you more challenges. If you pack everything together, you’ll find a unique atmosphere that enhances your gaming sessions with Inside.

Mind Control: One of the new (and unique) gaming mechanics from Inside, is how can you use NPCs to move forward. Within the game, you’ll discover that one device connected to your head, helps you take control over different people. Overall, the developers use this gameplay mechanic to enhance the plot and make new puzzles. Therefore, you’ll need the assistance (indirectly) from numb characters, until you manage to solve your way onward.

Sound Cues: Even though the previous game (Limbo) had a few sound effects, you’ll now notice better changes with Inside. As you move through the different stages, you’ll notice that some musical cues try to give you the right answers. Also, you’ll notice more responses from the main character and the upcoming predators. Without saying a word, the developers give you hints about possible danger and when you’re doing everything right.

If you already have some gaming experience with Limbo, and you liked it, you should try Inside as well. This video game continues the unique way of showing the players how to learn from their mistakes and solve everything by themselves. Enjoy it!

How to play

If you have some experience with the game Limbo, you’ll find it easier to adapt to this game. Still, though, if you do not have any knowledge about the games from these developers (Playdead), we’ll give you the right hints.

In this article, we’ll help you understand the unique gaming mechanics and help you prepare for this unique journey.

In a game like Inside, you’ll soon discover that you won’t need all of the buttons of your controller. When you explore the game’s Settings, you’ll find what you need to use to interact with Inside. In the video game, you have multiple abilities with your actions, such as:

Directional Keys (or Analog Stick): The main tool that you’ll need to master at first is how to move your character. With the directional keys (Keyboard) or the Analog Stick (controller), you can move the boy around the map. Indeed, after you learn a thing or two, you’ll discover that you’ll need to make precise movements to avoid any guards.

Jump Button: One of the main elements to survive in this game is learning how and when to jump. If you keep spamming the key, you’ll probably reduce your speed and timing between obstacles. As a result, you could end up losing momentum or even getting into unwanted accidents. Learn how to use the jump action when you see an obstacle on the floor to avoid stepping into something troublesome.

Grab Button: Sometimes, you’ll need assistance from different objects if you want to reach a high place. Thankfully, you can grab elements of the game and move them into a proper location. Furthermore, some puzzles need to hold the button and the Analog Stick when something looks “stuck.” Look for any cues when you move elements of the game.

Mind-Control Device: One of the unique gaming mechanics in the game is the ability to control other bodies with your mind. As you travel through different rooms, you’ll find a device that appears to be hanging from the ceiling. When you jump into it, you’ll discover that the boy “equips” the helmet, and the bodies suddenly “activate.” When you complete the puzzle, you can hold the “down” button to detach yourself from the helmet.

Explore All You Can: Sometimes the initial room doesn’t have all the information that you need to solve the puzzle. For example, you might find a grabbable object right next to a close area. In games like Inside, you should always move as much as possible and memorize all the close items.

Use What You Learned: Since you do not have to read multiple texts to learn what the boy is capable of, you discover abilities slowly. In other words, in one room you might need to jump to avoid an obstacle, while the next area requires that you make two precise jumps. Try to use different combinations and reuse strategies.

Take a Break: When you reach that moment that you somehow cannot discover the right answer, leave the game for a while. Leave your mind to rest for a bit and try to do something else. Sometimes you might find the answer in the next gaming session.

Now that you have a clear idea about the gaming mechanics from Inside, the rest is up to you! Good Luck!
